At our house, "the stick" was used as a scare tactic (that worked), not actual punishment.

My dad carved my name on one side and my brother's name on the other...in case there was any doubt as to who might be on the receiving end!!!

It just goes to show how times have changed...if a parent was to even "threaten" a child with this type of punishment, I'm sure the CAS would be called in.

I'm in no way condoning child abuse, but a little discipline never hurt anyone.

I can remember my brothers having to go out and cut their own willow switch and I'd feel do bad for them! Personally tho, I have no memories at all of being on the receiving end of any corporal punishment...can't be because I never needed it only that I have a very short memory!

For our own kids we used a paint stir stick...that way when we were out in public we didn't ever threatan a spanking... it was always "Do you want the Crown Diamond???"
