Living a Simple Life
For a long long time, I have loved the mystique about the Mennonite/Amish people. I don't mean to sensationalize it.... I just am fascinated by it, and find it strangely soothing to see them ... I LOVE photos of them.... I guess it takes me back to a time that I never knew but only heard about.... My dad tells me stories about life before they had a car... How he used to deliver milk in a horse drawn buggy and how cold they used to get in their cutter driving the back roads between Bury and Island Brook in the winter.
I have been sad this week as I've thought often about those kids that were shot in Pennsylvania .... innocent because of their age, and seemingly protected because of their lifestyle... but as Michael W. Smith said this week : "We're not safe anymore, are we?"
They held the funerals today for 4 of the girls ....
Naomi Rose Ebersol, was 7
Marian Fisher, was 13
Mary Liz Miller, was 8, and and her sister Lena was 7.
The service for Anna Mae Stoltzfus, 12, is tomorrow.
It breaks my heart.

I agree with you 100%, Paul. From time to time, I see them driving past my home (via horse & buggy). That sight never ceases to amaze me. I read three books over the summer about the Amish way of life. I was intrigued.
It's sad commentary on the world situation, but when I heard there was another school shooting, I wasn't "shocked" until I heard that it was at a one-room Amish school. Indeed, what is the world coming to!
My heart goes out to all the families involved. For the world to invade their separated way of life and then kill their children - well, it's more than criminal - it's shameful!!!!
May their faith in God sustain them now, more than ever!
It leaves me speechless. The grief of these families and the whole Amish community is beyond what I can imagine. We know that God's heart is broken as well and surely His coming can't be far away.
